Route 1 - Conic Loop
So a first crack at this and we'll see how we go. We've gone local for the first route and we've gone scenic.
25 minutes North of Glasgow and the beautiful village to Drymen just down the road from the start point for a pre coffee or post pint.
- At 15k if feels about right, you get a damn good workout and you don't end up thinking you should have done more or gone further (or at least we don't).
- It's Conic - part of the WHW and when you get to the top you get Loch Lomond and you get Ben Lomond. On a clear sunny day you can't beat it.
- There are a number of bail outs through various tracks if you want to shorten things and even more options if you fancy lengthening.
From the Square in Drymen head North up the Old Gartmore Road for a little over a mile and a quarter until you get to the Forestry Commission car park at Garadhban. Park the car and you're off and running. Just follow your nose and the West Highland Way.
Once you come down off Conic, head through the car park at
Balmaha and turn left and head along the B837 to Milton of Buchanan. Your on the pavement for a mile and half but once
you get to Milton of Buchanan you head left up Creityhall Road and back onto trails. The kicker here is that while you are figuring Conic will be the worst of the climbing (and in straight elevation terms it is), the drag back up from the main road to regain the WHW back to you start point is the real killer.
Thanks to the wonders of Strava here's the route - don't figure we will be on top for very long, but nice to be on a leader board at least one time!! (Edit to first post, took Strava all of 10 minutes to find someone faster!!!)
